Where to Find Free CEUs for ASL Interpreters

Since the RID CPC states that "Interpreters engage in professional development" so many of us are always on the hunt for CEU courses and workshops. Then some of us are certified or licensed and are required to earn a specific number of CEUs annually. All the links are listed at the bottom of the article.

  1. Purple/ZP

Say what you will about Purple, but they're always offering free CEU workshops on a wide variety of topics. Some of their workshops have been really excellent. You can follow them on social media to keep in the know for what's coming up. They have an email list for the CEU workshops, but I couldn't finda link to sign up.

  1. Center for Atypical Language

The Center for Atypical Language offers some very interestings courses and webinars specifically about atypical language. I think this is a really good topic to be knowledgeable about as an ASL interpreter because so many d/Deaf people have language deprivation which often results in atypical language. It's not easy to work with atypical language and often requires a CDI or DI team (Certified Deaf Interpreter or Deaf Interpreter).

  1. ASL Flurry

ASL Flurry offers free workshops and webinars, but if you want or need CEUs you will need to pay for them to process them. I haven't actually taken any from them, but now my interest is peaked!

  1. Described and Captioned Media

I took a really good educational interpreting ethics course with them. They offer workshops, quickclasses, and modules.

  1. ProTactile Language Interpreting

This one was one of my favorites. It peaked my interest in ProTactile. One of the best sections showed storytelling and poetry in ProTactile. In person ProTactile training is a must, but this course teaches ProTactile theory which is a great start.

  1. Catie Center

Catie Center has many self directed courses. This is really nice because you can do it in between jobs and whenever you're available. It can be hard to show up at a specific time when you have all kinds of different schedules.

Other places you can find CEU workshops, webinars, and courses are social media groups. Oftentimes there's grant funded courses that offer free CEUs. There's also workshops and courses that are well worth the money.

Where do you like to get your CEUs?
